Compliant and high-quality variable prints, such as barcodes, are essential in any coding requirement. DNP produces high-quality Thermal Transfer Ribbons that deliver just this.
Our expertise is to find the ribbon that meets the exact requirements of your application and production system while achieving compliance in your specific industry.
DNP Thermal Transfer Ribbons are meeting different types of regulations and compliances. Our products are approved for one or more of the following industry certifications: Isega, BS5609, REACH, RoHS and UL.
The testing institute, ISEGA Forschungs- und Untersuchungs Gesellschaft GmbH specialises in carrying out analysis to determine whether products are suitable for food contact. ISEGA tests all products used in the printing process for food packaging and safety. When a product, such as a Thermal Transfer Ribbon, is determined to be safe for indirect food contact, it is awarded an ISEGA certificate.
For this reason, DNP’s Thermal Transfer Ribbons have been examined by ISEGA. In fact, a range of them has been awarded ISEGA certification. The unprinted and reverse side of the packaging materials and labels printed with ISEGA certified DNP Thermal Transfer Ribbons may safely come into direct contact with dry, moist and fatty foodstuffs. The certificate concerns the ribbons only.
RoHS is a European Union legislation that aims for the ‘Restriction of Hazardous Substances’ in electronics and electrical devices. The original RoHS restricts the use of six hazardous materials found in electrical and electronic products. All this, to increase the recycling and/or re-use of such products. This, as inadequately treated e-waste may pose environmental and health risks.
DNP Imagingcomm Europe B.V., the supplier of Thermal Transfer Ribbons and Dye Sublimation Ribbons, declares that, to its knowledge as to the date of this statement, the products are no subject to the requirements of Directive 2011-65-EU Annex II.
This declaration is based on DNP Imagingcomm Europe B.V.’s understanding of the RoHS Directive and by the statement given by the Dutch government. The statement is as follows: ‘The moment a ribbon is mounted into a printer it becomes a part of EEE (Electronical and Electric Equipment) and should comply with RoHS-II. However, the moment the ribbon onto a core is delivered separately, it is actually meant as a part for EEE. Because it misses any electrical connection and it is driven mechanically, it cannot be qualified as being EEE. The ribbon does not need an electrical current to operate. In this case, it is the printer that requires electrical current to operate.’
REACH is an EU regulation. It was adopted to improve the protection of human health and the environment from the risks that can be posed by chemicals. Additionally. it aims to enhance the competitiveness of the EU chemicals industry. It also promotes alternative methods for the hazard assessment of substances in order to reduce the number of tests on animals. In principle, REACH applies to all chemical substances; not only those used in industrial processes but also in our day-to-day lives. Therefore, the regulation has an impact on most companies across the EU.
In summary: DNP Imagingcomm Europe B.V. products such as Thermal Transfer Ribbons do not contain substances of very high concern. At DNP, we can provide you with the declaration in English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish.
British Standard BS 5609 is an internationally recognised standardisation for printed labels for marine use. This standard establishes various durability criteria such as adhesive performance, print permanence and abrasion resistance for labels to be used in “Marine Environments”.
DNP offers several Thermal Transfer Ribbons that are BS5609 certified and can perform well even in two printhead printers for GHS labelling. Ribbons such as R300 (black) and R510C Red show very similar printability and are both compliant with BS5609. This applies when combined with the following label materials from FLEXcon DRUMcal® 51932 and MACtac FCD6914.
UL is an independent safety science company that helps organisations verify compliance, provide quality and performance, strengthen security and enhance sustainability.
For each application, DNP has a fitting Thermal Transfer Ribbon. However, inks, such as Thermal Transfer Ribbons, cannot be “UL-approved” by themselves because they are not considered usable until printed. Only the printed ink is recognized by UL – for example, a specific Thermal Transfer Ribbon formulation on a specific label material. That is why we work closely with label manufacturers to ensure that the ribbon of choice performs optimally in your production. DNP Thermal Transfer Ribbons are certified with hundreds of materials by FLEXcon, Lintec, and UPM Raflatac, 3M, and Avery Dennison.
